FCIA is pleased to release the results of its first Great Flooring Census, providing a clearer picture of Australia’s flooring industry, its workforce, the challenges businesses face and the changes needed to strengthen the industry’s future.
The Census reveals some important insights. Around 80% of respondents support stronger minimum training, registration, licensing or industry oversight, while almost 80% of businesses use subcontractors, highlighting the critical role this workforce model plays across the industry. Higher-quality work was also identified as the leading potential benefit of an industry-led accreditation framework.
The Census also explores challenges relating to qualifications, apprenticeships, onboarding and skills assessment, as well as what businesses would and would not want from a future industry accreditation model.
Most importantly, the Great Flooring Census is only the beginning. The findings provide FCIA with a stronger foundation for advocacy and ongoing work to improve training, workforce development, industry standards and recognition of skilled flooring installers.
